Oh wow look at that, there it goes onto my reading list.
I can also mention “Children of Ruin” by Adrian Tchaikovsky as a sci-fi novel featuring intelligent cephalopods. The descriptions of octopodish cognition are interesting and quite fun to boot. But topping that is a chapter in Greg Egan’s “Diaspora” that is also a stand-alone short story call “Wang’s Carpets.” There are squids in that one, if you know where to find them. I hope it doesn’t give too much away if I mention that a Fourier transform features prominently.
